East Brisbane Painting Project

JNE painters were honoured to work on one of Brisbane’s most iconic and historic homes. Known as Kitawah and built in 1911 this heritage listed home is one of the last dwellings designed by renowned QLD architect Robin Dods.
Conrad Gargett architects were tasked with the conservation and repurposing of this impressive villa with a core focus of preserving original building proportions. They undertook a study to determine the home’s original colours.
Downstairs bedrooms, carparks and other spaces were built in, and a new external staircase added.
This was the most challenging project we have undertaken to date with extensive intricate woodwork and sprawling verandahs across the high set timber home. First we had to remove failed coatings containing lead paint using Dumond smart strip paint remover.

JNE then restored the home to its original colours and prepared and finished the timber work in traditional shellac clear coating.
